Lumen Cookie Notice

October 13, 2023

This Cookie Notice describes how and why Lumen Technologies, and its affiliates, to include Lumen, CenturyLink, and Quantum Fiber (“Lumen”) uses cookies and other similar technologies to gather information, such as your operating system and Internet Protocol (IP) address and our purposes for using them. Lumen’s use of cookies and web beacons is managed by the Lumen Cookie Settings consent tool, which is presented at the bottom of Lumen websites. Cookie settings are based on your location and are specific to the regulatory requirements outlined in various U.S. States, the EEA (European Economic Area), and other international jurisdictions. Lumen also honors browser‑based blocking, so if you have a blocker on your browser (sometimes called an opt‑out preference signal), you can block all but “strictly necessary” cookies.

This site uses cookies, pixels, web beacons, and other technologies (collectively “cookies”) that automatically collect information about your activity on the site to enhance user experience, analyze performance and traffic, and facilitate sharing of that information with our social media, advertising, and analytics partners.

What is a Cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that many web publishers place on your computer when you visit their sites. Cookies ask your browser to store on your device to remember information about you, such as login information.

Lumen may also use web beacons. A web beacon, also known as a “web bug,” is usually a pixel on a website that can be used to track whether a user has visited a particular website to deliver targeted advertising. Web beacons are used in combination with cookies, so if you turn off your browser’s cookies, the web beacons will not be able to track your activity. The web beacon will still account for a website visit but will not record your unique information.

Types of Cookies

For use of functional, performance, and targeting cookies (sometimes displayed as Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information), Lumen displays a consent banner that you may use to select which cookies you wish to allow. You may also go to the Cookie Settings on Lumen’s website to set your consent preferences, or you may give your consent by continuing to use our website (outside of the EU/EEA). If you wish to withdraw consent, you may change your setting(s) at any time by selecting the Cookie Settings at the bottom of this website. They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages.

First‑party cookies are placed by Lumen (either directly or via previously loaded script) on your visitor’s device to be able to re‑identify you on subsequent page loads. First‑party cookies can be related to technical features on a website (such as remembering language settings or the contents of a shopping basket) or related to commercial features of Lumen’s activities (such as being able to trace your behavior over the duration of your visit or longer), so that Lumen can improve the use and feel of our website.

Third‑party cookies are set by a domain other than that of the website being visited by the user. If you visit a website and then arrive at a Lumen website, we may be able to track how you arrived at Lumen. Lumen classifies our cookies in the following categories:

  • Targeting cookies
  • Performance cookies
  • Functional cookies
  • Strictly Necessary cookies

Targeting cookies

These cookies are set by our advertising partners. Our advertising partners may use them to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant advertisements on other sites. They uniquely identify your browser and internet device.

Performance cookies

These cookies allow Lumen to count visit and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our site. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around sites. All information these cookies collect is aggregated by Lumen.

Functional cookies

These cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalization. Strictly Necessary cookies These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms.

Strictly Necessary cookies

These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms. Strictly necessary cookies do not require your consent.

Disabling Cookies

Lumen’s use of cookies and web beacons is managed by the Lumen Cookie Settings consent tool. Cookie settings are based on your location and specific to the regulatory requirements outlined in your jurisdiction (these vary by U.S. State and country). You may disable (or decline consent for) cookies, except for “strictly necessary” cookies. You may also set your computer preferences to (1) notify you each time a website tries to place a cookie on your computer and give you the option of accepting or rejecting it, (2) accept cookies from sites you visit (often referred to as first‑party cookies) but not from other sites (often referred to as third‑party cookies), or (3) block all cookies. Refer to the Cookie Settings, found at the bottom of Lumen’s webpages, to set your cookie preferences for this Lumen website. You may also engage with our cookie banner to set your preferences.

The Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) has a tool that lets you opt out of several thirdparty ad servers' and networks' cookies simultaneously. The tool will not block ads. It will only prevent the ads that appear on your computer from being selected based on the ad server's analysis of cookies on your computer which create ads targeted to your interests. This opt‑out itself relies on cookies. That means that you will have to opt‑out again if you delete cookies, change browsers, or use a new computer.

How do we use Cookies?

Lumen uses cookies and similar technologies to identify your operating system, browser, to personalize your visit (for example, by remembering your username or offering you Lumen products available in your location), and to see whether your computer has software needed to access some material on the site. Lumen may also use cookies to help our partners keep track of the advertisements they have displayed. When you go to a Lumen website (such as Lumen.com, q.com, centurylink.com), we receive information about pages visited within our website, average time spent on our site, and sometimes the website accessed before or after leaving the Lumen website, along with other relevant statistics. For example, if you arrive on Lumen’s website, or leave our website, via a digital advertisement, we will see the site you accessed immediately before accessing, or immediately after leaving, our website. Lumen may also get your IP address, including the city and state of its location. To improve your experiences, we may store preferences or other information provided to personalize service offerings and ads. Lumen uses this information to analyze, manage and improve our sites.

*An IP address is assigned to your browser by your ISP (internet service provider). The IP address identifies visitors on the internet by a number, and part of that number usually identifies your city, state, and country. Your IP address stays the same while you are connected to the internet, but your ISP may assign a new one in between Internet sessions.

When other companies advertise our websites, the ad networks, and advertisers we work with may put a cookie or web beacon on your computer. The ad networks use these cookies and web beacons to keep track of what ads are displayed and whether you click on the ads (both as required by their relationships with advertisers), and to better understand the ads that you like. Consistent with best practices in Internet advertising, the ad networks we work with enable you to opt‑out of their placement of cookies or web beacons and Lumen honors global opt‑out preference signals. Lumen uses cookies and web beacons to track marketing efforts by Third‑Party advertisers to our website. This information may expose individual information about your journey on our website to these third parties. You can turn off these cookies by removing consent for Targeting Cookies when using our Cookie settings. (For instance, go to Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information in California or Colorado.) You also have the right to opt‑out of “sales” and “sharing” of your personal information using an opt‑out preference signal, sometimes known as browser‑based blocking. Note: we do not sell your personal information
