Intelligent Traffic Manager (ITM) is a global, DNS-based load-balancing service that enables content providers to transparently monitor and route traffic to any publicly accessible IP application, website, or content delivery network (CDN)—even CDNs of providers other than Lumen.
 

Routing decisions are based on configured policies crafted for optimal performance and availability:

• Policies can be based on geography, traffic balancing rules, and the availability of systems.
  
  
• Based on the configured policies, ITM detects where the end user is located and routes them to the closest and best performing application server.
  
  
• If no servers within a region are available due to failure, users are routed to the next best server.
